Importance of Unitary organization.
B.P.M. Wijesekara.
Unitarists claim that management and employees share the same concerns and interests in an organization. In the simple definition where the employees' needs and employers' expectations come together in terms of each of their ideas, concerns, interests, and needs the notion of Unitary emerges.
A broad discussion has made on the topic as,
Unitary perspective
Pluralist perspective
Critical perspective
And contemporary output on the above three also done while examing the importance of unitary by Heery (2016).
In any organization, both employer and employees have their own expectations and rights as well as some important responsibilities over each other party. Same time both parties have their own view of the things to be done to succeed.
The employer expects that,
Employees will perform as per the expected level.
They will obey and do what are asked to do.
Work legally without a break of rules.
Action can be taken if not performed well.
Allowed to take disciplinary action if need.
Employees expect that,
The employer will treat them fairly and well.
Proper grievance handling procedure.
Healthy and safe workplace established.
Job security.
Action will take only after a proper investigation.
Whatever the expectation, either employee or the employer needs to understand that if the organization remain or survive in the fast-changing environment and with the hard competition among the organizations that both parties will be able to be benefitted, or else not only the expectations but the basic needs even will be in uncertainty.
However, in order to maintain and remain with the same kind of expectations or share the same idea perspective, the contribution of employees or their representatives on operational decisions need to be addressed at a higher level. In other words, not only the employer but the employees as well need to be very much concerned about the quality and the standards of the products that make in the organization.
Spisto (2005), emphasized that employee participation in decision making in cooperation improves productivity standards and product quality.
In the concept of the unitary organization, industries, or businesses that practice has shown some real difference from the others especially by having a peaceful environment in the workplace between the management and the employees.
Same-time unitary organizations have an advantage of lack of unionism of their employees which is a long-term benefitted matter in respect of growing organizations (Cullinane and Dundon, 2014).
Further, Unitarism and Pluralism with interests and values of employees and the employer discussed deeper with identification of the importance by (provis, 1996).
It is difficult to make a connection on the discussion with my current industry as there are no examples that can be given on the notion of Unitarism in Tea plantations in Sri lanka. But with the Pluralism behaviors experiencing we as Tea planters of Sri lanka have a good move in the future to introduce the concept to the industry and try hard to get our workforce more positive by involving them to contribute in the decision-making process.
Conclusion.
The idea and the advantages of practicing it proven by many literary journals in this article while by the experience also we have recognized the importance of the concept and the benefits that can be gained. The learning outcome of the concept needs to be practically used in our organizations as well in order to have an empowered set of teams to get or achieve organizational goals with the common and shared expectation between both the employers and employees parties.
