Team Development.
B.P.M. Wijesekara.
In an organization, Team development or Team building can be discussed in divided stages as follow,
Forming.
Storming.
Norming.
Performing.
Adjoining.
"There is a huge body of knowledge and a whole industry built around team building" (Mackey 1999).
Many discussions have taken place through different authors with different literature journals on team development, a concept or a structure recommended to be have in any level of organization in terms of achieving a common goal as a team to succeed in a sustainable manner.
Forming- Forme a team and establishment of ground structural rules.
Storming- Members of the team communicate and share their ideas and feelings.
Norming- Members start to think and feel like a team.
Performing- Members work with trust and flexibility on each other.
Adjoining- Implement the planned roles of members and recognize the contribution.
According to Sarker et al.(2000), described that communication, a frame of reference, social practices, norms, and technologies as the key parameters to implement and improve in the development of the formed team in an organization.
Simply the theory of team development based on every member of the group as one common unit and all the members must contribute to have an effective team. initially, all of the members are individuals working in the same place together while later on after getting to know each other use to coordinate and begin to operate as a TEAM instead of a collection of individuals.
In the global contest of the theory, international organizations further developed the concept of team development by introducing various new innovational practices.
Building Block theory is one famous innovation in order to improve team development concept and identify the prevailing weaknesses inside the team by having questionaries that allow managers or trainers to identify shortcomings. (Woodcock 2017).
When it comes to my own organization team development plays a major role in day-to-day operations where every activity has a link in each and the contribution of every department is a key where we have already identified that Plantation itself is a place of various kind of members, abilities, thoughts and definitely a greater example of a developing team.
Conclusion.
As per the literature reviews and our own experiences not only in working industries but also in personal life as well there are number of incidents we have come across by realizing the importance of the TEAM DEVELOPMENT which without a debate is an activity must be practiced to have a sustainable organization.
